Description
Course description: The use of audio-visual communication technology to perform notarial acts in lieu of being in the physical presence of a notary public (often referred to as remote notarization) was ushered into Pennsylvania with the COVID-19 pandemic and has since been made a permanent part of state notary law by Act 97 of 2020. We will discuss how remote notarization builds on the use of electronic documents and signatures in notarial acts; how both these concepts came to be in state law; how they were implemented by the Department of State; and the effect that electronic and remote notarization will have on the practice of law and legal matters in general.
